Prior to beginning the application process, please carefully read the following information.

Application Deadline

UT Austin only admits students seeking a PhD in Microbiology and only in the fall semester.

Applictions are due on December 1, 2019 for admission to the doctoral program in Microbiology for Fall 2020.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required materials are submitted on time. Applications received after the deadline may be considered, at the discretion of the admissions committee. It may not be feasible to complete the review of late applications in time for invitations to recruitment visits.

Application Materials

With the exception of official scores for English-language tests, all materials should be uploaded electronically through the online application system. Please do not send paper materials or duplicate paper copies of the online application.

After You Apply

Once completed, please monitor your application via the MyStatus portal.

After the admissions committee reviews applications, qualified applicants may be invited to interview during a recruitment visit in January or February. These visits provide a great opportunity to interact with faculty and current graduate students, experience our campus, and tour Austin.

Commitment to Diversity

The Microbiology Graduate Program is committed to providing educational opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in the biological sciences. We strongly encourage students of all backgrounds to apply. In addition to the support from our department, the University of Texas at Austin offers a number of fellowships to promote graduate study and diversity.
